Procession Along the Virgin do Carmo River

Mid-August

A river procession in honour of Our Lady of Carmo, Virgin of the Sailors. The populations of Alcoutim (Portugal) and Sanlúcar (Spain) come together on the Guadiana river, with decorated boats, to accompany the Virgin on her journey. This festival is held annually and is part of the Sanlúcar Cultural Week. It attracts large numbers of tourists, who end up participating in the cultural event with their multicoloured yachts and sailboats.

Over a whole week, mid-August, the most diverse activities take place, including popular games (ribbon races, bicycles), cultural activities (exhibitions, film screenings, festivals) and sports (like foosball competitions).
A day dedicated to Portugal stands out, demonstrating the good relations between the two municipalities and reinforcing the bonds of friendship between its inhabitants.
